These amazing abandoned castles once stood magnificently in the medieval era to serve their masters as safe heavens. Built for various purposes, these castles have been highly inhabited and strongly guarded to safeguard the rulers those days. Scattered around Europe, most of them are abandoned with time due to various reasons, now become museums, archaeological sites, and world heritage sites. Almost all the castles built in this era were built from stones to withstand the artillery and other projectile attacks from outsiders. Moreover, most of them were surrounded by moats to give an additional defense line. These moats were filled with crocodiles so that it would be difficult to cross the moats to reach the castle walls.
These defense mechanisms were effective those days and helped to fortify the castles and evade the outside attacks. The culture of constructing castles emerged in the middle age and these castles were the homes for royals and nobles. An early type of castle was built from timber and earth and later stone walls were added to strengthen the structure.
I am sure we all love to see these royal structures from our naked eyes and till the time you visit these magnificent places let us now explore them here.
