International Women’s Day is a worldwide celebration observed on the 8th of March. The aim of the day is to recognize women’s accomplishments and advocate for equality, rights of women, and gender equality. International Women’s Day is also known as National Women’s Day. It is Women’s History Month in the US, UK, and Australia.
International Women’s Day is a celebration of the achievements of women throughout history as well as to acknowledge the gender inequality which still persists. By taking time off of working hours to commemorate the day, including games, competitions, and activities that highlight the day’s significance. Most employees work during Women’s Day, so businesses must give this holiday the respect it deserves. Also, a celebration of women at work promotes diversity, encourages inclusion, and provides women with the support and confidence they need to excel.
The theme for this year is #Breakthebias and the following statement made available on IWD’s Official IWD website:
“Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”
The organizers of IWD encourage companies to join the IWD 2022 campaign by asking employees to take a selfie of themselves with the IWD 2022 pose. Then, upload your #BreakTheBias picture or video, resource, and presentations on social media with the hashtags #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias. The IWD 2022 pose is simply to raise your arms in your solidarity.
Here are the things you can do to celebrate the event with your friends, co-workers, and family members. You can even conduct some of the events virtually as well.
