We all had a cuddly, silent friend when we were little, who shared our happiness, sorrows and fears. We find comfort in our teddy bear companions, and apparently it seems that it’s no different when it comes to animals.
The best example for this is Doodlebug. He’s an adorable baby kangaroo who unfortunately lost his parent’s love and care at a very young age. However this baby kangaroo finds the warmth and tenderness of his mother’s pouch through his cuddly teddy bear.
Tim Beshara, an advisor to Green senator for Tasmania Peter Whish-Wilson , tweeted these heartwarming images of Doodlebug playing with his new fuzzy buddy. According to him, they’ve been taking care of this baby kangaroo since he was a couple of months old. “She(Gillain Abbot , his mother) has since nursed it back to health and it is now hopping around the forest and coming back for the occasional feeding or cuddle, as the image shows.”, he said.
His mother Gillian Abbot, a wildlife rehabilitator, also shared her thoughts about Doodlebug and his new companion. She was also surprised as to how similar Doodlebug’s behavior was to toddlers. Doodlebug continued to play and cuddle the teddy bear as toddlers would do. It was certainly surprising to see how animals also get attached to toys and form intimate bonds with them.
Our little orphan Doodlebug is healthy and big enough to go back to the wild, however he is still not prepared to face the darker aspects of the wilderness. While Abbot and her organization are preparing him for his future, Doodlebug continues to enjoy the company of his teddy bear.
